Lambertus de Jong

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lambertus de Jong (born June 2, 1825 in Hilversum , † June 19, 1867 ) was the seventh old Catholic bishop of Haarlem .

Life

He is mentioned as pastor of Zaandam in 1860 and on June 3 of the same year he introduced the new pastor of Egmond aan Zee , Johannes Jacobus Greuningen , into his office.

In 1863 the clergy of the Haarlem diocese elected Lambertus de Jong as their bishop. The Archbishop of Utrecht, Henricus Loos , refused to recognize him. De Jong, who received his episcopal ordination on November 30, 1865, called the Haarlem clergy to Amsterdam on October 3, 1866 , together with the Archbishop and the Bishop of Deventer . The archbishop stayed away from the meeting and the clergy drew the election of the bishop. However, this decision was never promulgated and not reported to the government, so that doubts arose about the legality of de Jong's episcopal acts, which led to protracted disputes with Archbishop Loos after his death.
