Henricus Loos

Henricus Loos (born April 21, 1813 in Amsterdam , † June 4, 1873 in Utrecht ) was the ninth old Catholic Archbishop of Utrecht .

He was the son of Henricus Loos and Cornelia, nee Swart. In 1825 he was accepted into the seminary at Amersfoort . After his ordination on December 1, 1833 in Haarlem by Bishop Johannes Bon, he worked in The Hague (1833 to 1835), Enkhuizen (1835 to 1839), Zaandam (1839 to 1849) and Utrecht (H. Maria, 1849 to 1870). From 1853 to 1858 Loos was "Secretary of the Episcopate", a position similar to that of Vicar General .

On July 7, 1858, the cathedral chapter elected him archbishop . He was ordained bishop on September 21, 1858 by the bishops Henricus Johannes van Buul (Haarlem) and Hermann Heykamp (Deventer).

Loos was the author of a number of theological writings.

Vatican I fell during his term of office . At the invitation of German Catholics who had been excommunicated because of their rejection of the Council decrees , Loos undertook a pastoral trip through Germany in 1872 and donated the sacrament of Confirmation there . Contemporaries report that this trip was like a triumphal procession.
