Johannes van Santen

Johannes van Santen (born November 22, 1772 in Hilversum ; † June 3, 1858 in Utrecht ) was the eighth old Catholic Archbishop of Utrecht .

Live and act

The ordination received van Santen on 23 July 1797 by Archbishop Johannes Jacobus van Rhijn . He exercised his priesthood from 1797 to 1825 in Schiedam . In 1806 he became a member of the metropolitan chapter, in 1814 secretary of the chapter and, after the death of Willibrord van Os in 1825, episcopal vicar, together with Wilhelmus Vet , the bishop of Deventer .

On June 14, 1825 Chapter van Santen chose as archbishop, and on Sunday, 13 November 1825 gave him the Bishop of Haarlem, John Bon the episcopal ordination .

In a new disputation in 1827 with the papal nuncio Francesco Capaccini , an agreement failed again due to Rome's insistence on signing the "form".

The first closer contact with the Anglican Church fell during his tenure with the visits of John Mason Neale in 1852 .
