The 1988/89 season was the 44th regular season of the International Hockey League . During the regular season, the ten teams played 82 games each. In the play-offs, the Muskegon Lumberjacks prevailed and won the second Turner Cup in their club history.
Team changes
The following changes were made before the start of the season:
- The Colorado Rangers changed their name to Denver Rangers.
- The Indianapolis Ice were added to the league as an expansion team.
