Montfavet is a municipality district of Avignon in the French department of Vaucluse in the region Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur . The term “neighborhood” is a bit misleading, as Montfavet is actually an independent village center that has its own zip code 84140 (Avignon zip code is 84000). Montfavet is five kilometers from the Avignon urban area.
The place has a little less than 14,000 inhabitants and forms a special administrative area for Avignon, which provides a special deputy mayor.
Montfavet is mainly home to the psychiatric CHS on the hill near Montdevergues , the Agroparc of Avignon and the airport of Châteaublanc.
history
During the French Revolution , Montfavet was temporarily a separate municipality. In 1794 it was again attached to Avignon.
In the 1990s, the Montfavet Commune Libre association worked to establish a community that was genuinely independent from Avignon. Despite broad popular support and favorable court proceedings (favorable opinion from the Conseil d'État ), the project was never completed.
