Henrique Lemle

Henrique Lemle (* 1909 in Augsburg as Heinrich Lemle ; † 1978 in Rio de Janeiro ) was a German-Brazilian liberal rabbi .

Life

Doctorate to Dr. phil. In 1932, he was a youth rabbi in Frankfurt am Main, among others . After having been interned in Buchenwald concentration camp , he emigrated to Brazil via Great Britain in 1940 (1940).

In 1950 he translated the prayer book for the High Holidays into Portuguese . Since 1951 he has given lectures on the science of Judaism at the University of Rio, where he became a professor. In 1959 he became an honorary citizen of Rio.
