Henry Abyngdon

Henry Abyngdon , with the family name also Abyngton , Abington or Abingdon , (* around 1418 , † September 1, 1497 ) was an English clergyman and musician.

Abyngdon was a succentor at Wells Cathedral from 1447 to 1497 . In 1463 he became a Baccalaureus in Music at Cambridge . From September 29, 1455 to September 29, 1478 he was the first Master of the Children (Choristers) of the Chapel Royal [Royal Chapel]. He leads the quality of the choir to a level highly valued by his contemporaries. He was succeeded by Gilbert Banister. Abyngdon is considered one of the first musicians in England to obtain an academic degree. Abyngdon has not received any compositions.
