Henry Cotton (psychiatrist)
Henry Cotton (born May 18, 1876 in Norfolk , Virginia , † May 8, 1933 ) was an American psychiatrist and director of a famous mental hospital in Trenton , New Jersey . Cotton advocated a controversial theory : he believed that the cause of almost every psychiatric illness was a local infection (teeth, tonsils, gastrointestinal). Cotton tried to help his patients through sometimes very radical operations.
Although Cottons therapies were unsuccessful and resulted in large deaths, he remained a recognized psychiatrist.
