Henry Cromwell
Henry Cromwell (born January 20, 1628 in Huntingdon , † March 23, 1674 in Wicken , Cambridgeshire ) was the fourth son of Oliver Cromwells and Elizabeth Bourchiers and an important figure during the rule of parliament over Ireland .
Life
He was educated at the Felsted School in Essex and became a member of the New Model Army in 1647 . In 1649 he married Elizabeth Russell († April 7, 1687), they had seven children. From 1650 he was in command of troops of the English parliamentary army in Ireland and from 1655 as the successor to Charles Fleetwood Lord Deputy of Ireland . After the abdication of his brother Richard Cromwell as Lord Protector on May 25, 1659, he also laid down his dignity and lived in seclusion in England until his death. His family died out in the male line in 1821.
