from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Henry Daubeney, 1st Earl of Bridgewater (December 1493 or 1496 - April 8 or April 12, 1548 ) was an English nobleman.

Henry Daubeney came from the English Daubeney family . He was the only son of Giles Daubeney, 1st Baron Daubeney and his wife Elizabeth Arundell . His father was an influential vassal of King Henry VII , whose favor had made him the most powerful magnate in south-west England. After his father's death in 1508, Daubeney inherited his possessions and the title of Baron Daubeney , but due to his minority, his inheritance was placed under guardianship. On the evening before the coronation of Henry VIII in 1509, he was made Knight of the Bath . In 1513 he took part in the king's campaign in France during the Italian wars . On December 19, 1514, his inheritance was finally handed over to him. On July 19, 1538 he was raised to Earl of Bridgewater .

Daubeney was married twice. In his first marriage he had married Elizabeth Neville, the daughter of George Nevill, 5th Baron Bergavenny and his first wife Joan FitzAlan before July 16, 1517 . In his second marriage after 1531 he married Katherine Howard , the widow of Rhys ap Gruffydd FitzUrien , who was executed as a traitor . She was the daughter of Thomas Howard, 2nd Duke of Norfolk and his wife Agnes Tilney . Both marriages had remained childless, so that his titles expired on his death. He was heir to his nephew John Bourchier, 2nd Earl of Bath .
