Henry E. Holt (* 1929 ) is an American geologist , planetologist and astronomer who worked on the US Geological Survey and at the University of Arizona . He mainly investigated properties of the lunar surface. After leaving the geological service, he took part in the Palomar Asteroid and Comet Survey.

So far, Holt has discovered 669 asteroids , including (4581) Asclepius , (5261) Eureka and (6914) Becquerel . Together with other astronomers, he discovered the periodic comets 121P / Shoemaker-Holt , 127P / Holt-Olmstead and 128P / Shoemaker-Holt .

In his honor, the asteroid (4435) was named Holt .
