The Henry Ice Rise is a 250 m high and triangular ice dome 110 km in extent off the coast of the west Antarctic Ellsworthland . In the Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf, it rises between the Korff Ice Rise and the southern section of Berkner Island .
He was first visited by a US team to explore the Ellsworthland during the International Geophysical Year (1957-1958). The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named him in 1977 after Clifford D. Henry (1918-1975) of the Military Sealift Command , captain of the USNS Private John R. Towle , who died on February 16, 1975 on the return voyage from Antarctic waters.
