from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Henry de Beaumont, 5th Earl of Warwick (also Henry de Newburgh ) (* around 1192; † October 10, 1229 ) was an English magnate .

Henry de Beaumont came from the Anglo-Norman family Beaumont . He was the eldest son of Waleran de Beaumont, 4th Earl of Warwick and his first wife Margery de Bohun. His father died in 1203 when Henry was a minor. After standing on King John's side in 1212, he sided with the rebels during the First Barons' War. When after the war of the barons, the Regency Council under Hubert de Burgh reclaimed royal lands and castles that had been in the possession of other barons since the Civil War, Beaumont supported the Regency Council. Together with other magnates he supported Richard of Cornwall in 1227 , the younger brother of King Henry III. when he briefly rebelled against his brother in vain.

In his first marriage he married Margery de Oilly after 1205 , the eldest daughter of Henry de Oilly and his wife Maud de Bohun. After the death of her father, his wife became a co-heir of his father's estates and inherited Hook Norton in Oxfordshire . With her he had at least two children:

After the death of his first wife, he married Philippa Basset , a daughter of Thomas Basset , Lord of Headington , who had been his guardian after the death of his father, before May 1, 1220, in a second marriage in 1220 . The marriage remained childless.

Heir to his first marriage son Thomas de Beaumont, 6th Earl of Warwick. His widow Philippa married Richard Siward for the second time after his death .
