Henryk Friedman
Henryk Friedman (* 1903 ; † probably 1942) was a Polish chess master of Jewish origin. From 1926 to 1934 he was city champion of Lwów seven times . He achieved his greatest successes in 1935, when he tied for second place at the Polish championships and, while playing with the Polish team on the fourth board, came third at the Chess Olympiad in Warsaw , and in 1936 when he played with the Polish at the unofficial Chess Olympics in Munich Team on the fifth board was playing second and remained undefeated. That year he also won the Trebitsch tournament in Vienna.
In the 1930s he formed the editorial team of the Lvov chess magazine Szachista together with Stepan Popel . After the outbreak of World War II , he was still playing for the Ukrainian championship in 1940 . After the attack by National Socialist Germany on the Soviet Union , he is said to have died in the Lviv ghetto in 1942 .
