In 2011, Hepsetus cuvieri was revalidated. It wasdifferentiatedfrom Hepsetus odoe on the basis of morphological features, such as the scale formula , the color and the gill-trap rays .
features
Hepsetus cuvieri has a torpedo-shaped but laterally flattened body and is about 35 centimeters long. The head is narrow and high, the muzzle pointed, narrow and short. The back and anal fin sit far back. They are marbled, brass-colored to olive-colored or darker brown in color. The back is darker, the sides show dark brown spots, the belly is cream-colored.
