Heptatonia Secunda

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term Heptatonia Secunda (also Second Seven Steps ) describes a system of different, heptatonic modes of the acoustic scale . The derived modes are often used in jazz , but in the harmonics there , melodic minor is regarded as the mother scale.

Derivation

The system of the church modes consists - in simplified terms - of different modes that are created by changing the keynote of the diatonic base scale in C major . This system can also be called Heptatonia prima . Analogous to this, a second system can be formed, which is also built up heptatonic and diatonic (in the broader sense), i.e. represents a second type of seven-step scale, and uses the acoustic scale as the base scale.

Derived modes
