Herb Cohen

Herb Cohen (born 1933 in New York ; † March 16, 2010 in Napa , California) was an artist manager and businessman.

Life

From the mid-1950s to the 1970s, Cohen supervised numerous musicians, especially in the Los Angeles area , including Pete Seeger , Screamin 'Jay Hawkins , Alice Cooper , George Duke , Tim Buckley , Lenny Bruce , Tom Waits and Linda Ronstadt . He also ran several concert clubs, including The Unicorn in Los Angeles.

Best known is his work as manager of Frank Zappa and his band The Mothers of Invention , for whom he gave their first appearances and their first record deal from 1965. With Zappa he founded the record labels Bizarre Records , Straight Records and DiscReet Records . In 1976 he and Zappa separated after ten years of cooperation.
