Herba Sana is one of the largest publicly accessible medicinal herb gardens in Europe. The garden was opened in 2002 by the Laboratoires Ortis company in the Belgian , German-speaking community of Bütgenbach ( Elsenborn ).

description

This didactic garden is divided into nine areas, which make the areas of application of the plants shown there clear, such as circulation, digestion or nervous system. Great importance was attached to the fact that the planting on 8000 m² was didactically. The more than 200 herbs were grouped thematically and according to use and provided with explanatory panels. There are boards on the plants, on which they are presented with their names, toxicity and use. There are also areas that appeal to the senses, which also appeal to the visitor visually or via the nose, and which activate taste or feeling.

There are often late frosts here until mid-May, the garden is located on a high plateau on the edge of the High Fens . Annual plants can only then go into the field. Due to the climate, the garden is open daily from the beginning of June to the end of September. The main flowering period begins in mid-June and ends at the end of July. The garden is divided into two parts, the front part is a compilation of medicinal plants in themed gardens, the rear part is supposed to show the vegetation of the Venn.
