Herbert-Wehner-Bildungswerk
The Herbert-Wehner-Bildungswerk is a non-party, social democratic association that provides political education . The educational center is located in Dresden . It is named after the social democratic politician Herbert Wehner . The self-designation is "Wehnerwerk".
tasks
The educational facility is intended to encourage and empower citizens to take on responsibility in society. To this end, it conducts seminars, conferences, discussion events and educational trips. The offers of the Herbert-Wehner-Bildungswerk are accessible to all citizens. The work is financed from participation fees and government grants.
history
The educational institute was founded on September 14, 1992 in Chemnitz . One of the founding members was Greta Wehner , the widow of the politician Herbert Wehner, who died in 1990. The first chairman was the member of parliament, Peter Adler . The first managing director to set up the educational facility was Klaus Reiners. In 1994 the company moved from Chemnitz to Dresden. From 1999 to 2020, the headquarters of the education center was in the Äußere Neustadt district . The move to the Herbert-Wehner-Haus in Devrientstraße in Dresden took place in March 2020. The Herbert-Wehner-Bildungswerk Friends Group has supported the work since 1997. In 2003 the Herbert and Greta Wehner Foundation was established to manage Herbert Wehner's private estate.

In addition to political education in the narrower sense (discussion events and training), the Bildungswerk also offers educational trips and memorial trips. It is a member of the working group of German educational institutions .

The Friends of Herbert-Wehner-Bildungswerk was founded on February 8, 1997 in Dresden. The founding spokesman was Hans-Jochen Vogel . In memory of Herbert Wehner, the chairman of the SPD parliamentary group traditionally holds the office of spokesman. Andrea Nahles , Thomas Oppermann , Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Peter Struck have already held this position. The Freundeskreis has over 500 members all over Germany. The aim and purpose of the Freundeskreis is to support the Bildungswerk and the construction of a Herbert Wehner House in Dresden.
