Herbert is a computer game developed by AMC Verlag . It was released in 1988 for the Atari 8-bit series .

Overview

The game is a so-called platform game . The game world is shown from the side. The content of the game is to fight your way through twenty levels with a duck or two (Herbert and his friend Oskar) and at the end free your girlfriend. Both characters can be taken over by human players, the level is displayed twice one below the other. Herbert has the opportunity to run, run, swim and flutter. In addition, he can lay an egg in nests that appear every now and then and receives an extra life in return, and three times per level it is possible to trigger invulnerability for a few seconds. Enemies are e.g. B. a witch, a fish, a swordsman, thorns on bushes or carnivorous plants. To solve a level Herbert has to collect gems within a time limit and reach the exit on the far right. There are storable best times for each level and a highscore list.

A level is half a screen high and about 6 screens wide, only scrolling horizontally.

Herbert received good reviews in Germany, including a. 91% in Compy Shop magazine and a very positive review in Atari magazine. It was one year in the top ten readers of Atari magazine and reached number 1 three times. Outside of Germany, the games are hardly known.

The games have been freeware since 10/2003.
