Herbert Böhme (Superintendent)
Herbert Böhme (born March 2, 1879 in Oederan ; † June 7, 1971 in Dresden ) was from 1933 to 1950 superintendent of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Meissen church district .
Before Herbert Böhme was appointed superintendent on January 22, 1933, he worked as a pastor in Löbau as well as at the Zionskirche and the Kreuzkirche in Dresden.
Herbert Böhme became known when the then 66-year-old rebelled against the city leaders on April 27, 1945 and tried to dissuade the SS fortress commanders and the then mayor from taking the city down to the last in the city of Meißen , which had meanwhile been declared a fortress to defend, and thus to spare the cathedral and castle, among other things. He was then arrested and sentenced to death. After he had been transferred to the Dresden Regional Court on May 2, 1945 for the execution of the sentence , he was freed by the Red Army on May 7, 1945.
After the end of his work as superintendent in 1950 he still worked in part in the Dreikönigskirche in Dresden and as a canon in Meissen .
In 1987, sixteen years after Boehme's death, a street in Meissen was named after him in his honor.
