Herbert Bihlmayer

Herbert Bihlmayer SDB (* 1935 in Immenstadt im Allgäu ) is a German Salesian from Don Bosco and was provincial of the southern German province.

Life

Herbert Bihlmayer entered the novitiate of the Order of the Salesians of Don Bosco in 1954 and made his first temporary profession on August 15, 1955 . After completing his studies and training, he was ordained a priest on June 29, 1964 by the Augsburg Bishop Josef Stimpfle .

As a Salesian of Don Bosco, he devoted himself in particular to youth education . In 1969, together with the then Provincial Franz Burger, he was the initiator of the youth education center Action Center Benediktbeuern and headed it until 1985 when he became director of the entire branch in Benediktbeuern . From 1973 to 1980, Father Bihlmayer was also university chaplain of the Catholic Foundation University of Applied Sciences in Munich (Benediktbeuern department) and the Philosophical-Theological University of Benediktbeuern of the Salesians of Don Bosco.

In August 1991, Father Bihlmayer was elected Provincial of the Southern German Province of the Salesians of Don Bosco. In this role he was also involved in founding the Center for Environment and Culture . In 2001 he set up the Don Bosco Foundation Center and was its chairman until 2011.

In June 2001, Father Bihlmayer was elected deputy chairman, and briefly in June 2003, chairman of the Association of German Superiors of the Order (VDO).

In August 2003 he was replaced as Provincial by Father Josef Grünner , but belonged to the Provincial Council of the southern German province as Provincial Vicar. Since August 2005 he has been a member of the Provincial Council of the United All-German Province.

In 2006, Father Bihlmayer was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit for his services .
