Live and act

The son of a businessman grew up in the Berlin working class district of Berlin-Rixdorf . After finishing secondary school, he completed an apprenticeship as a textile merchant at the renowned Berlin fabric shop “Seidenweberei Michels”. After completing his apprenticeship, he worked in the advertising department of his training company and later became the head of this department. After military service and an American prisoner of war, he moved to live with his parents in Wolzig . Since 1950 he has worked as a radio play author and journalist for Urania . His focus was on popular science literature for young people and essays on local history. In 1955 he became a member of the German Writers 'Association (DSV, from November 1973 Writers' Association of the GDR). Herbert Brumm has been working as a freelance photographer in Schwedt since 1959. The focus of his work was the documentation of the city of Schwedt / Oder and the emerging industry there. In 1965 he moved to Schwedt / Oder with his family. Since then the photographic orders have grown to a considerable volume, so that there was no more room for writing. The everyday life and working conditions of the Schwedt population also found a place in his photographic work. In 1967 the nature lover moved to Gramzow / Uckermark to get some distance from the city and work. From Gramzow he also photographed the model socialist village of Dedelow with its modern agriculture as well as other objects in what was then the Prenzlau district. Until shortly before his death he worked for the city of Schwedt / Oder.

Brumm was married and had one daughter.
