Herbert Heftner

Herbert Heftner (born June 24, 1962 in Vienna ) is an Austrian ancient historian .

Herbert Heftner studied Ancient History and Classical Philology at the University of Vienna since 1985 . In 1994 he received his doctorate with the dissertation Plutarch and the rise of Pompey: a historical commentary on Plutarch's Pompeius vita under Gerhard Dobesch . From 1994 to 2008 Heftner was employed as a scientific contract clerk at the Institute for Ancient History, Archeology and Epigraphy at the University of Vienna. From 1994 to 2002 he worked as a university lecturer at the University of Vienna. In 2002 the habilitation took place on the oligarchical overthrow of the year 411 BC. And the rule of the four hundred in Athens. Heftner has been an associate professor in Vienna since 2008.

His work focuses on the Athenian politics of the 5th and 4th centuries BC. BC, the political and structural history of the late Roman Republic, as well as the history of Roman expansion and Roman-Carthaginian relations in the 3rd century BC. Chr.
