Herbert Krüger (art historian)

Herbert Lothar Walter Krüger (born April 8, 1902 in Schneidemühl , † January 17, 1996 in Fürstenfeldbruck ) was a German art historian , museum director and prehistorian .

Life

After attending school in his hometown and in Graudenz, Herbert Krüger, who was born in Schneidemühl, turned to studying art history and geography at the universities of Berlin and Göttingen , which he obtained in 1929 with the academic degree of Dr. phil. completed. Herbert Krüger, who was employed as a wood, miner and metal worker from 1921 to 1923, subsequently took on a position as a scientific assistant at the Geographical Institute of the University of Göttingen.

In 1933 he moved to the post of director of the municipal antiquities collection , which he held until 1936. In 1938 he was appointed director of the Oberhessisches Museum and the Gail collections in Gießen, a position which, apart from an interruption between 1942 and 1948, he held until he retired in 1968. Herbert Krüger died in Fürstenfeldbruck in 1996 at the old age of 93.
