Herbert Schwirtz

Herbert Schwirtz (born December 31, 1929 in Wattenscheid ) is a German politician and former member of the state parliament ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending elementary school and secondary school , he completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk and worked as a commercial clerk from 1949 to 1951 . Since 1952 he was employed by the city of Essen as an employee and then as a civil servant .

Schwirtz has been a member of the SPD since 1946. He was active in numerous party committees, so u. a. as district chairman in Wattenscheid and as a member of the sub-district executive committee of Bochum. He has also been a member of the Public Services, Transport and Traffic Union since 1949.

From May 28, 1975 to May 30, 1990 Schwirtz was a member of the Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia . He was elected directly in constituencies 104 Wattenscheid and 126 Bochum III.

From 1961 until the regional reform in 1974 he was a member of the city ​​council of Wattenscheid and from 1971 to 1974 mayor .

Others

In 1970 he was awarded the ring of honor of the city of Wattenscheid. He received the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon in 1980 and the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class in 1987.
