Herbert Stender

Herbert Stender (born May 27, 1913 in Bujendorf , † February 3, 1978 in Nienhagen ) was a German politician of the FDP and CDU and a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament .

Life

Stender graduated from high school in Eutin in 1933 and then began an apprenticeship as a banker. He also worked as a journalist . He had been a member of the NSDAP since May 1, 1933 ( membership number 2,706,575). He was active as a leader in the Hitler Youth . From 1936 to 1939 he visited the NS-Ordensburg as a so-called Ordensjunker . Further training was interrupted by the outbreak of war. Stender was a pioneer officer from 1939 to 1945. It was not until 1947 that his time as a prisoner of war and internment ended for him. His first job was in agriculture before he set up as a retailer in 1949.

From 1953 he was a full-time employee of the FDP, until 1955 at the Schleswig-Holstein State Association and then until 1960 as a department head and defense policy advisor at the federal party leadership in Bonn. From April 1960 he was general manager of the Lower Saxony FDP regional association. In April 1969 he was terminated without notice and resigned from the FDP. Shortly afterwards, Stender joined the CDU together with two other parliamentary group colleagues. He was the holder of the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Herbert Stender was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament from the 5th electoral period from May 20, 1963 until his death during the eighth electoral period on February 3, 1978. He was deputy chairman of the FDP parliamentary group from June 5, 1963 to June 5, 1967 and deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group from February 23, 1976 until his death.
