Herbord by Raven

Herbord , perhaps Herbord von Raven (* unknown; † before 1287 ) first town mayor of Neubrandenburg.

Herbord (earlier incorrectly Latinized: Alborus ), knight and feudal lord of Margrave Johann I of Brandenburg , entered the written tradition for the first time when the Margrave wrote the foundation letter for the city of Neubrandenburg ( civitatem nostram Brandenborg novam - in German: Our new city of Brandenburg ) and ordered "Nos Herbordo" to be the locator , who was given special privileges as the first schoolboy of the newly founded city.

According to an uncertain tradition from 1602, he is said to have belonged to the noble family Raven . His name has since been introduced into the town's history as Herbord von Raven .

After his death before 1287, the Neubrandenburg City School Office was passed on to his descendants for some time. The (supposed) residential building in the oldest part of the city (Friedländer Straße) was later used as St. Nikolaikirche and fell into disrepair after the Thirty Years War .
