Hercule Lavoie

Hercule Lavoie (before 1918 - after 1929) was a Canadian opera singer (baritone).

The life dates of Lavoies are not known. In 1918 he was one of the founding members of the Association des chanteurs de Montréal . In 1919 he founded the Quatuor de Montréal , a quartet with Émile Gour , Joseph-Henri Thibodeau and Ulysse Paquin , with which he sang religious songs and folk music.

From 1919 he was active as an opera singer. He appeared with Sarah Fischer and Cédia Brault in Carmen , sang Frédéric in Lakmé and Valentin in Faust . In the 1920s he led the Société canadienne d'opérette u. a. Les Moulins qui chantent (1923), Rêve de valse (1924), La Hussarde (1926), Le Beau Voyage (1926) and Le Roman de Suzon (1926) by Henri Miro and the Les pêcheurs de perles (1929) by Bizet . He was involved as a soloist in the world premiere of Miros Vox populi under the direction of Jean Goulet (1928).

As a lieder singer, Lavoie performed in the 1920s with Marie-Anne Asselin , Émile Gour , Blanche Gauthier and Germain Lefebvre in Montreal and other cities in the province of Quebec. In 1923 he gave a concert in the Salle Lafontaine with the soprano Camille Bernard and Aldéa Lussier . In 1921 he worked with Hector Pellerin , Alexandre Desmarteaux and Blanche Gauthier on one of the first broadcasts on the CKAC radio station.

With the troupe Concerts lyriques Frontenac , which included Émile Gour , Jeanne Maubourg , Armand Gauthier and Léonide Létourneux , he performed excerpts from operas such as Miros Lolita , Armand Robis Les Cloches de Corneville and Carmen on the radio .

From 1924 Lavoie recorded around 70 popular songs for the Starr Company , including numerous titles by Roméo Beaudry such as L'amour se souvient , J'ai toujours vingt ans , La Chanson du prisonnier , Ange de mon berceau and Ne fais jamais pleurer ta mère . He recorded folk and religious songs in 1928 with the Quatuor Notre-Dame (with Émile Gour , Charles-Émile Brodeur and Paul Mireault ).
