Jeanne Maubourg

Jeanne Maubourg (born November 10, 1875 in Namur , † May 12, 1953 in Montreal ) was a Canadian singer (mezzo-soprano) and music teacher of Belgian origin.

Live and act

Musbourg studied music in Nancy, Algiers and Brussels. In 1897 she was engaged at the Théâtre de la Monnaie , where she sang the Musetta in Puccini's La Bohème , the Hansel in Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel and the title role in Bizet's Carmen . Between 1900 and 1904 she appeared at the Covent Garden Opera , later she moved to the Metropolitan Opera , where she made her debut as Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana in 1909 and appeared in numerous roles until 1914.

In 1917 she went to Montreal with her husband, the conductor Albert Roberval , where she appeared in operettas, in 1923 in the Société canadienne d'opérette and in 1936 in the Variétés lyriques . She played numerous character roles in both companies, appeared on the radio, made more than a dozen records, and also gave singing lessons. Pierrette Alarie , Fleurette Beauchamp-Huppé and Honoré Vaillancourt were among her students . The city of Montreal named a street after her.
