Heris (also Hiriz ; Persian هريس Harīs ) is a small town in the northern Iranian province of East Azerbaijan . It is located about 100 km northeast of the provincial capital Tabriz . Heris is the administrative center of the Heris region and has 9513 inhabitants (as of 2006).
The city is considered to be the center of Azerbaijani carpet weaving. Heris is therefore also a classification feature for the Heris Persian carpet .
