Herman Petignat
Herman Petignat (born May 2, 1923 in Porrentruy , † March 4, 2000 in Toliara ) was a Swiss botanist and connoisseur of xerophyte and succulent vegetation in the area of Toliara in Madagascar . Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Petignat ". In 1980 he set up an arboretum in Antsokay in the south of Toliara , which is the largest collection of the plants found in the south of Madagascar. Petignat was one of Werner Rauh's contactsin Madagascar, with whom he went on some expeditions and described several new plant species, e.g. B. Euphorbia spinicapsula Rauh & Petignat.
