Hermann Löns statue

The Hermann Löns statue at the level of the Hermann-Löns-Strasse 9 building in the Walsroder Stadtwald Eckernworth shows the local poet Hermann Löns . The local poet had counted the Walsroder Stadtwald Eckernworth, in whose forest management he often lodged, to the special sights of today's “Hermann-Löns-Stadt”.
History and description
The statue was created by the sculptor Marlies Leonardy-Rex after a painting by Wilhelm Kruke . The artist designed a life-size image of Hermann Lons as a hunter , Heger , poet and conservationist with binoculars , hunting rifle , writing pad and his dachshund named "Battermann". The statue shows the poet in a hunting uniform and a hunter's hat with a cord typical of the time. The self-knitted knee-high socks were just as typical of the sitter as the open, bulging pockets, which are supposed to suggest the sandwiches that Löns often carried with him .
The bronze cast statue was anchored on a foundation. At the foot of the figure there is a plate with the names of the main sponsors . A small stone with the inscription "Hermann Löns 1866 - 1914" was placed next to the sculpture. The symbol of the wolf angel was used for the "bis" sign , which Löns often put under his signature. The ground-level figure “to touch” was set up next to a high tree and makes the sitter appear rather small despite his size.
Cobblestone was laid around the figure , the statue itself was covered with a protective film, which makes it easier to remove any vandalism using spray paints.
Thanks to the personal commitment of the President of the Löns Association , Monika Seidel, the funds for the costs of around 137,000 euros for the modeling, the material and the casting were collected in a donation collection. The statue was finally a gift from the Löns Association to the city of Walsrode and was ceremoniously unveiled on September 2, 2006 by Heinrich Prince of Hanover on the occasion of the 140th birthday of the local poet .
