Hermann Baier

Hermann Baier (born May 18, 1881 in Reute near Meßkirch ; † April 27, 1938 in Karlsruhe ) was a German historian and archivist .

Life

Hermann Baier graduated as Dr. phil. After completing his studies, he worked as an unskilled worker at the Baden General State Archives in Karlsruhe from 1906. In 1909 he was appointed archive assistant and in 1920 he was promoted to the archive council. Four years later he was appointed senior archivist and in 1928 archives director. In this position, Hermann Baier headed the Baden General State Archives until his death in 1938. He was also a full member of the Upper Rhine Historical Commission . He published several articles on the history of Baden, specializing in the legal relationships between state and church and secularization in Baden as well as emigration from Baden to America, Russia and Poland.
