Hermann Binder

Hermann Binder (* 1945 in Sighișoara / Schäßburg , Transylvania , Romania ) is a German organ builder and organ researcher in Transylvania.

Life

The father Hermann Binder (1911-2006) was a Transylvanian-Saxon evangelical theologian and later became a professor in Sibiu. Hermann Binder studied physics in Cluj-Napoca / Klausenburg and was then a teacher in Slimnic / Stolzenburg . In the late 1960s he went to Potsdam and learned organ building at the Schuke company .

Hermann Binder has been repairing and processing organs in Transylvania since around 1970. In 1973 he founded a regional church organ building workshop of the Evangelical Church AB in Romania in Sibiu / Hermannstadt. Up to four people were employed there and over 30 young organ builders were trained. In 1995 he converted the workshop into his own company.

Hermann Binder restored numerous historical organs in Transylvania. He wrote a comprehensive presentation of the organ building in Transylvania with individual representations of many historical instruments.

Hermann Binder is married to Dorothea Binder and has three daughters.
