Hermann Fliss

Hermann Fliß (born January 21, 1878 in Anderbeck ; † November 14, 1961 in Northeim ) was a German local politician ( SPD ) and was mayor of the southern Lower Saxony city ​​of Northeim from 1946 to 1948 .

Life

The trained miner Fliß moved to Northeim in 1912 and worked for the following two years as a foreman in Levershausen and Volpriehausen . During the First World War he suffered a serious injury, which is why he could not resume his work in mining. Instead, he found a job in April 1919 as a cashier at the Northeim city administration. In the years that followed, Fliss became a fixture in Northeim's local politics: between 1920 and 1921 he was a member of the district council for nine months. From 1924 to March 12, 1933, he also served as mayor, and in the last year of his term of office as secretary. He was also the first chairman of the SPD local association in Northeim from 1928 to 1931 and, from 1929, was again a member of the district council for another four years.

Fliß, who had not held any political office since the spring of 1933 , was arrested in July 1944 during the great wave of arrests following the assassination attempt on July 20, 1944 , and imprisoned in Göttingen.

After the arrival of the US armed forces in Northeim and the flight of the former rulers, Fliss was appointed senator on April 14, 1945. As part of this office, which he held until January 15, 1946, he was entrusted with the departments of the welfare office, hospital, schools, cemetery, facilities and city gardening. After four more months as a member of the advisory board, Fliß was elected mayor of Northeim on May 31, 1946 . On December 20, 1948, just under a month before his 71st birthday, he left office. Until November 8, 1956 he was a member of the Northeim City Council and also acted as an arbitrator for the city of Northeim.

On December 6, 1960, Hermann Fliß was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
