Hermann Freudenberg

Hermann Freudenberg (born August 18, 1924 in Berlin ; † November 15, 2010 in Weinheim ) was a German entrepreneur.

Hermann Freudenberg was a great-grandson of Carl Johann Freudenberg . His family emigrated with him to England in 1939 because his mother was Jewish. Freudenberg completed an apprenticeship as a tanner and studied chemistry in Switzerland. In 1950 he returned to Germany and joined the Freudenberg family business in Weinheim. He was the technical director of the leather business before he rose to the company's management in 1959 and became a personally liable partner. In 1962 he became the spokesman for the company management and held this position until 1988. During his time, the family business, which was once characterized by handicrafts, changed into a globally active group. After his departure, Freudenberg was Chairman of the Shareholders' Committee until 1997.

In 1984 he was involved in the establishment of the Freudenberg Foundation , which endeavors to promote socially, economically or culturally disadvantaged groups. From 1981 to 1989 he was involved in the presidium of the IHK Rhein-Neckar and from 1991 to 1998 in the supervisory board of ZEW .

Freudenberg was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class in 1984 and the Great Federal Cross of Merit in 2004. The city of Weinheim honored him with the citizen's medal in 2000.
