Hermann Gebhardt

Hermann Gebhardt (* 1824 ; † April 28, 1899 in Gotha ) was a German theologian and pastor of Molschleben .

Gebhardt took up the parish office in Molschleben in 1868 after the death of his father Traugott and was his successor there. Some books and writings he wrote himself made him known far beyond the borders of the Gotha region. His first work appeared in Gotha in 1864: The Resurrection of Christ and Her Opponents . His best-known book was On peasant beliefs and morals . On September 30, 1879 he was elected to the board on the occasion of the establishment of the Thuringian Church Conference. In recognition of his work, he received the Knight's Cross of the Ernestine House Order, 2nd class, from Duke Ernst II in 1893 . He was awarded an honorary doctorate in theology for the 200th anniversary of the University of Halle in August 1894. In the same year he published the Molschleben church-village chronicle . Because of his poor health, Gebhardt retired on November 1, 1896. He died in Gotha on April 28, 1899. In memory of Gebhardt and his father, a memorial plaque was placed on the south wall of the Molschleben church.
