from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hermann I († May 20 after 1200) was abbot of the Cistercian monastery in Ebrach from 1194 to 1200 .

Life

Very little is known about Hermann's origins. He was probably born in the second half of the 12th century and soon entered the Cistercian monastery in Ebrach. The abbot succeeded the fourth head of the monastery, Burkard I , but was only mentioned in a document in 1194. Under his rule the construction of the Gothic monastery church began. Abbot Hermann I died on May 20th.
