Hermann III. (Werl)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hermann III. († after 1055) was a Count of Werl who held count rights in Friesland .

Life

He was the son of Rudolf von Werl , a brother of Hermann II , and an unknown mother. A brother or cousin of Hermann was probably Bishop Rotho von Paderborn . Little is known about his life. He had count rights in the Frisian Emsgau . Coins minted by him in Emden are known. There he probably owned a castle that had a St. Walburgis chapel. The castle may already have existed under his father. Albert K. Hömberg had put Hermann in touch with a Vogt of the Werden monastery . In the meantime it seems to be clear that the Vogt belonged to the family of Count von Berg . The nevertheless important and noble rank of Hermann becomes clear through his marriage with Richenza . According to recent research, this probably comes from the Rhenish house of the Ezzone . She was the daughter of Duke Otto of Swabia. The daughter Oda emerged from Hermann's marriage with Richenza . She married Count Udo von Stade around 1065 . After Hermann's death, Richenza married Otto von Northeim .

Individual evidence

  1. There is also the thesis of a descent from the Billungers .
