Rudolf von Werl (also Ludolf) (* around 982/86; † July 12th around 1044) came from the house of the Counts of Werl and was a count in Groningerland in the Frisian Emsland .

family

Rudolf was the son of Hermann I von Werl and Gerberga von Burgund . He was the brother of Hermann II von Werl and Bernhard von Werl . Furthermore, he was step-brother (actually half-brother!) Of Empress Gisela and Mathilde married to Konrad I of Carinthia . He was also King Henry II's cousin and King Rudolf III's nephew . of Burgundy .

Life

Little is known about him. He owes his name to his uncle. The first name was taken over by the Counts of Stade through his granddaughter Oda . He was the owner of an imperial county in Groningen (Hunse- and Fivelgo). In this capacity it can still be grasped from sources around 1040. It is possible that he also administered bailiwick rights to the Werden monastery in the Emsland . In 1018/19 he seems to have supported his brother Hermann's opposition to Heinrich II and from 1025 to 1027 Mathilde's opposition to Konrad II . He had a son named Hermann , who married Richenza from the house of the Ezzone around 1045 . One son could have been the bishop of Paderborn Rudolf / Rotho . The Essen Book of the Dead lists him on June 12th as "Rudolphus comes."
