Hermann Josef Nellessen

Hermann Josef Nellessen (born April 29, 1923 in Aachen ; † 2004 ) was a German conductor and composer .

Life

Nellessen studied piano and conducting at the Musikhochschule in Cologne (with Hermann Abendroth ). In 1954 he moved to the GDR, where he worked, among other things, as musical director at the theaters in Brandenburg and Cottbus and as director of the State Symphony Orchestra in Neubrandenburg .

Nellessen was a member of the LDPD . In March 1977 he was elected a member of the LDPD's central executive committee at the 12th party congress of the LDPD in Weimar .

From 1979 Nellessen worked as a lecturer at the University of Music in Berlin. His compositional work concentrated on the symphonic and concertante areas. Since the 1980s, he turned increasingly to choral music .

Herrmann Josef Nellessen was awarded the Carl Blechen and the Fritz Reuter Prize.
