Hermann Kraft

Hermann Kraft (born October 6, 1941 in Riedau ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). Kraft was a member of the National Council between 1972 and 1995 .

After primary school, Kraft attended the Petrinum Episcopal Gymnasium in Linz . Between 1965 and 1969 he was the district party secretary of the ÖVP Ried im Innkreis and was then state secretary of the ÖAAB Upper Austria from 1969 to 1993 . Furthermore, Kraft was employed as an employee of the regional building department in Linz.

Kraft began his political career in local politics, where he held the office of community party chairman of the ÖVP Riedau from 1962 to 1964. He was elected to the local council of Riedau in 1967, was mayor of Riedau between 1977 and 1984 and resigned from the local council in 1989. From 1970, Kraft was also active within the party as a member of the ÖVP state party executive. In addition to his professional activity, Kraft was also politically committed to the ÖAAB and between 1969 and 1980 was the district chairman of the ÖAAB Ried im Innkreis. In 1970 he was also elected to the board of the ÖAAB Upper Austria. Furthermore, he was chamber councilor from 1974 to 1979 and from 1989 chamber director and parliamentary group chairman of the chamber for workers and employees for Upper Austria.

In addition, Kraft became active as President of the Upper Austrian Civil Protection Association from 1991 and was Vice President of the Austrian Civil Protection Association from 1993. He also held the functions of deputy chairman of the working group of the ÖAAB National Councils and Federal Councilors and was President of the Society for Security Policy and National Defense.

Kraft represented the ÖVP in the National Council from May 29, 1972, where he held the function of security and defense spokesman as well as ÖVP club board. He had to resign from his mandate with effect from February 8, 1995 after a tape emerged in which he had offered the SPÖ MP Peter Marizzi in 1994 to split commissions between the ÖVP and the SPÖ for the planned purchase of helicopters for the Austrian Armed Forces .
