Hermann Lagershausen (born December 11, 1901 in Braunschweig ; † November 18, 1977 there ) was a German engineer and university professor .

Live and act

Lagershausen first attended Wilhelm-Gymnasium and then studied civil engineering at the Carolo Wilhelmina Technical University from 1922 to 1927 . During this time he made two extended trips to the USA to get to know the state of the art there. During his studies he became a member of the AMV Arminia Braunschweig (in the special houses association ). He trained as a Reichsbahnbaufführer. His time as a trainee lawyer at the Reichsbahn in Magdeburg and Essen remained unpaid because of the difficult economic situation. After passing the "Second State Exam" in 1931, he remained a government architect without employment. In 1935 he did his doctorate at the university with a thesis on the "compulsory process in shunting yards". Due to his convincing professional achievements, he was given important tasks at the Reich Railway Directorate during the National Socialist era .

In 1951 he took over the chair for traffic and railway engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig (formerly Carolo Wilhelmina) and in 1954 became the founder and director of the local institute for traffic, railway engineering and traffic safety until his retirement in 1969. From August 1960 to July 1962 was he is also the rector of this university. Since 1958 he was a full member of the Braunschweig Scientific Society .

One of the important achievements of Lagerhausen is his basic work on “driving from an electrical point of view” with the help of the so-called line conductor ( LZB ), which has helped to shape today's safety technology on railways.
