Hermann Lewen

Hermann Lewen (* 1952 in Altrich near Wittlich ) is a German festival director. He is the founder and director of the Moselle Music Festival .

Life

Hermann Lewen was born in Altrich in 1952. In elementary school he began his musical training as a choirboy, which he continued on the piano and organ. After attending secondary school, Lewen completed an apprenticeship in the municipal administration of the city of Wittlich and the municipality and administration school in Trier. In-service training in the field of municipal tourism followed. From 1974 he worked in the municipal culture and tourism management of the city of Wittlich. In 1983 he became head of the spa and event management of the city of Bernkastel-Kues , u. a. responsible for the programming of the Mosellandhalle of the city of Bernkastel-Kues with concerts / events of light and serious music. In 1988, Lewen took over as managing director of the Mosel Kino, which was taken over by the city and association at the time, and which he managed until 2012. Since 1989 Hermann Lewen has been the managing director of the communal Kultur und Kur GmbH, whose task it is to operate the spa guest center he designed and to plan and implement the cult program of the town and community of Bernkastel-Kues.

Hermann Lewen is one of the founders of the “Days of Old Choral Music” in Bernkastel-Kues, which was founded in 1987 and which continues to work on exemplary old choral music and performed it in concerts and radio productions. he is co-initiator of the international organ competition for the Hermann Schreoder Prize and the Moselle Franconian Dialect Days.

In 1985, on his initiative, the classical summer festival "Mosel Festwochen" - today's Mosel Music Festival - was founded, of which he was artistic director and artistic director until 2018.

From 2002 to 2005 Hermann Lewen held a teaching position as a guest lecturer at the European Event and Media Academy in Baden-Baden.

Since 2016 Hermann Lewen has been a lecturer at the University of Luxembourg in the subject of "Cultural Studies and Interculturality"

He was a member of local parliaments for more than 20 years. a. the city council of Bernkastel-Kues and the district council of the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich; For more than 10 years he has been a member of the General Assembly of the IHK Trier.

Hermann Lewen is the father of three daughters and the grandfather of currently five grandchildren.
