Hermann Martens
Hermann Martens (born April 16, 1877 ; † 1916 ) was a German racing cyclist . In 1908 he won an Olympic silver medal in the team pursuit .
After Martens had only started racing in 1902 , the driver , who started for the Berlin Bicycle Club Germania , won his first race in 1903. In 1904 he won 17 races and took second place 18 times; In 1905 and 1906 he was German champion over 25 kilometers. He had fought a total of 49 victories before starting the Olympics.
At the Olympic Games in London in 1908 , he competed in all seven disciplines. In the 100 kilometer race he gave up, in five other competitions he was eliminated on the first lap. Only in the team pursuit, which was carried out in 1908 over 1980 yards, about 1810 meters, did he win in the first round together with Max Götze , Rudolf Katzer and Karl Neumer over the French foursome. After beating the Dutch in the semi-final, the German four-man lost to the British in the final.
