Hermann Matzke (born March 28, 1890 in Breslau ; † June 26, 1976 in Konstanz ) was the founder of musical technology, publisher of the instrument making magazine, professor at the Technical Universities of Breslau and Stuttgart, music critic, composer and publicist.

life and work

family

  • Born and raised in Wroclaw.
  • Son of the businessman (men's clothing) Emanuel Matzke and Agnes, b. Shark sign. Brother Georg 1892–1945 (pharmacist).
  • 1918 marriage to Dora Berner (1894–1955), whom he met in 1914 in Bern.
  • 1923 Birth of daughter Liselotte (died 1998 in Münchenbuchsee / Bern).
  • 1959 marriage to Carla Müller (1902–1988). Opera singer in Breslau, Berlin, Kulmbach.

Musician

  • At the age of nine he started playing the piano, later under the guidance of Felix Rosenthal, violin lessons with Fabian, counterpoint with Georg Riemenschneider , basics of flute playing with Ernst Tschirner, singing and later also methodology of school singing with Max Thomale. As a student organ student with Otto Kinkeldey .
  • Initiator of the student orchestra in the Realgymnasium am Zwinger, Breslau.
  • Even as a teenager he taught himself (he taught his brother to play the violin, among other things) and repeatedly played chamber music in ad hoc formations, e.g. B. during his military service from 1914.
  • First compositions during high school.
