Hermann Metzger (born May 13, 1919 in Essen ; † September 13, 2012 in Bochum ) was a German artist and long-time chairman (1972–1981) of the Bochum Artists' Association .

Hermann Metzger studied at the Folkwang-Werkkunstschule and works as a freelance painter, graphic artist and art teacher at the Jacob-Mayer-Realschule in Bochum.

From the mid-1950s he created several murals and mosaics as art in public spaces. Painting, drawing and printmaking have always played an equal role in his work, although from the mid-1960s he was interested in large-format drawings. From 1975 painting came back into focus. In his work, he addresses the tension between the individual and the group, and often deals with the sensitivities and problems of the individual in society.
