Hermann Morneweg

Hermann Morneweg , occasionally also written Mornewech (* around 1270 probably in King's Lynn ( England ); † January 25, 1338 in Lübeck ), was mayor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.

Life

Hermann Morneweg became a councilor in Lübeck in 1306 and mayor in 1312. He was the son of councilor Bertram Morneweg , who was a successful merchant in King's Lynn before his return to Lübeck and was one of the founders of the Holy Spirit Hospital . His mother was Gertrud Morneweg († 1301), who continued his business after the death of her husband.

Hermann Morneweg was married to Tiburga Raceborg and lived at Königstrasse 47-49. He was the richest Lübeck of his time and donated two vicarages in the St. Johanniskirche in Krummesse at the altar of Saints John and Bartolomäus and entertained them with income from the apartment on Ratzeburg Lake , in the Gau Kaköhl. His grandson Diedrich Morneweg also became councilor in Lübeck.
