Hermann Nazarenus (born February 15, 1936 ) is a German soccer player who played 69 league games from 1955 to 1960 as an active member of Kickers Offenbach in what was then the first-class soccer Oberliga Süd , scoring 23 goals. The offensive player, who mostly operates on the wing, was a member of the OFC three times in 1957, 1959 and 1960 in the runners-up teams in the southern German league. The striker, who was mostly used as a left winger in the then prevailing World Cup system at the time , was appointed by the DFB to play in the B national team in 1957 .

career

Amateur, Oberliga Süd and again amateur until 1970

The talent of Hermann Nazarenus developed at his hometown club Phönix Düdelsheim at the side of his three years older brother Willi. The footballing class of the brothers stood out so elementarily above that of the teammates that in the Wetterau district they spoke of the "Nazarenus" eleven. At the age of 19, Hermann moved to the 1955/56 round as a highly talented left winger at the Bieberer Berg to the southern German upper division Kickers Offenbach. Under the guidance of the formative coach Paul Oßwald , he got to know the quality of top southern German football. On the seventh round matchday, October 16, 1955, he made his debut in a 0: 4 away defeat at FC Schweinfurt 05 in the Oberliga Süd. The Kickers attack in the line-up with Engelbert Kraus , Gerhard Kaufhold , Helmut Preisendörfer , Ernst Wade and Hermann Nazarenaus remained unsuccessful. In his first year in Offenbach, Wilhelm Weber remained a regular on the left wing, who scored five goals in 30 missions. The young newcomer from Düdelsheim had to be content with five league appearances and two goals. The OFC took fourth place.

In his second round, 1956/57 , Nazarenus finished second with the Kickers behind champions 1. FC Nürnberg, two points ahead of last year's champions Karlsruher SC. The dangerous attack against Preisendörfer (18 goals), Kraus (15), Kaufhold (14) and Hermann Nazarenus (21 games - 9 goals) had scored the most goals in the south with 81 goals. After six match days in the first half of the season Offenbach had led the table with 11: 1 points and Nazarenus had distinguished himself as a four-time goalscorer. Unfortunately, the left winger was injured so badly in February 1957 - after 21 appearances with nine goals - that he could no longer play a round game. The winger also failed completely in the final round of the German football championship in 1957, where Offenbach failed to make it into the final due to a 1: 2 defeat on June 2 in Ludwigshafen against defending champions Borussia Dortmund.

In the 1957/58 world championship season, the new Offenbach striker hope Siegfried Gast won the top scorer's crown in the south with 20 goals, but the OFC did not get past fifth place. Nazarenus came from coach Oßwald to 24 league games in which he scored three goals last season. National coach Herberger took a closer look at the winger and nominated the two Offenbach attackers "Berti" Kraus and Nazarenus after the league game against the leaders 1. FC Nürnberg (1: 2) for the international match of the B national team on December 21, 1957 in Budapest against Hungary. At 2-2, Michael Pfeiffer from Aachen scored both German goals and Kraus and Nazarenus stormed on the wings. One day later, on December 22nd, the senior national team won a friendly against Hungary 1-0 in Hanover and Heinz Vollmar from Saarbrücken was on the left wing. It was not enough to participate in the World Cup tournament in Sweden in the summer of 1958, but at the invitation of the German-American Football Association, Offenbach carried out an impressive tour of the USA after the end of the round and the Nazarenus brothers were part of the OFC delegation. Six games were against All Stars New York (4: 2), a selection by Connecticut in Hartford (11: 0), Philadelphia (9: 2), Detroit (4: 0), St. Louis (4: 1) and for Graduation carried out again against All Stars NY. The then DFB General Secretary Georg Xandry was also represented in the tour guide . Almost all of the players on the USA trip were also there a year earlier in August 1957 when the trip to the Soviet Union had led.

Under the new coach Bogdan Cuvaj Kickers Offenbach reached the runner-up in the 1958/59 season . The championship won the local rival Eintracht Frankfurt under the previous Offenbach success trainer Paul Oßwald. Hindered by injuries, Nazarenus took part in 17 league games and scored nine goals. On the 28th matchday he stormed the 1-0 home win against SpVgg Fürth on the right wing and Offenbach led the table with 47: 9 points. After that, Nazarenus was injured for the rest of the round, including the entire final of the German championship . He could not actively take part in the entry into the final on June 28th in Berlin against Eintracht Frankfurt and the regular middle runner Helmut Sattler was prevented from participating in the final due to a suspension.

The injuries from the 1958/59 season allowed Hermann Nazarenus 1959/60 only two more league missions. In the summer of 1960 he returned to his hometown club Phönix Düdelsheim as a sports invalid. With the black and yellow from the "Marktweide", Nazarenus made it into the 2nd amateur league in 1962 and in the middle group league in 1965.
